Project Summary

The Flavour Fleet trailer system offers support to lower income communities where it is desperately needed. Food deserts are an increasing problem throughout the world and lower the quality of life of the surrounding area. Lack of local access to healthy and affordable food has wide impacts on the life of a resident and can increase the cost of transportation and increase their grocery bill. Without access to proper nutritious food sources, a resident often turns to convenience stores or fast food chains which become a challenge when maintaining a healthy diet. The Flavour Fleet system assists with these challenges by deploying to food deserts with food from a sponsoring grocery store, then assisting to educate the residence with food preparation.

Enhancement of Human Lifestyle

Lifestyle enhancement comes through three elements that aim to help the user keep a healthier diet.

Access, transportation, and education all contribute to the Flavour Fleet’s impact on residents. Making sure residents have access to healthy ingredients, having easy transport to get to good food and the knowledge of how to use the ingredients once they have been purchased. Removing barriers to healthy meals makes it as easy as possible to support a healthy lifestyle.

Human-Interaction & User-Centric Design

Education is at the forefront of the Flavour Fleet System. Providing information through the menu screen with additional resources online.

Large and easy to read text on the screen and the labels with QR codes for further learning. The Flavour Fleet system also assists the sponsoring supermarket with a custom cart to keep the produce bins organized within their stores. Reducing organizational challenges while being a comfortable way to move produce bins to the trailers.

Ergonomics & Human Factors Design

Flavour Fleet trailers take comfort and safety into account when creating the shopping environment, protecting the users from the sun is key to a safe shopping experience.

While the produce bins are sized to be easy to carry, they can sometimes be heavy. To help with this strain a soft touch handle has been included that can adjust to the needs of the users in a swiveling motion.

Sustainability & Social Responsibility

The materials used in the Flavour Fleet system are produced and coated to be long lasting requiring little repairs.

A strong, recyclable steel frame holds up an anodized aluminum shell to protect the food from the environment while staying non-toxic throughout manufacturing and use.
